A moment of career reflection

Two years ago, if you told me I’d be spending the vast majority of my time thinking, talking and dreaming about NFTs, I wouldn’t have any idea what you were talking about. The space is that new.

Yet somehow I find myself in the immense honor of leading marketing for Voice, an NFT platform for creators. In a world where we can’t always predict our career journeys, somehow all my experiences with startups, content creation, and marketing strategy has led me here. Despite being new to the world of blockchain and Web3, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

Why? Because I love opportunity. I am grateful to have it, to embrace the chance I’ve been given to make my mark on the world. I absolutely delight in sharing it, and working to build a world where creators can earn from their work has been incredibly worthwhile. The entire Web3 space is one giant opportunity to build a new era of connectedness and equality, and to rewrite some of the rules that Web2 got wrong.

My current role is a unique mix of external and internal marketing. On any given day, I work on press strategy, influencer programming, social media marketing, emails, blogs, community management…the list goes on. Mixed in among that externally-facing work is a lot of internal brainstorming, sharing feedback, planning, and building systems that I believe will help our startup get to where we dream it will.

We have massive ambitions–which is exactly why I know I’m exactly where i should be.

Many people asked why I’d leave companies with household name recognition to take a chance on a brand new company with no guarantee of success. My answer: because once upon a time, those companies were new too. And a group of dedicated people nurtured them with everything they had. The last year and a half have shown me how right of a decision I made.

Now, as I begin 2022 with even more on my plate than ever before, I commit to returning to this space of reflection to make sure I pay attention to every moment I’m lucky enough to experience on this wild ride.
